SHPF Photo Competition 2023

The SHPF are happy to be running a photo and video competition again this year with cash prizes of £25, £20 and £15 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

• The competition is open to all SHPF members.
• Each member can submit up to two photos and one video, taken by themselves..
• The submissions must be hang-gliding or paragliding related and taken in Scotland.
• All submissions must have been taken between 1 January and 31 December 2023.

How to Submit Photos

The photos, your name, and a brief description of the photos should be e-mailed to <redacted>.

Please send a link to your video, e.g. on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook etc. If it is not online, please upload it to a service such as Google Drive, or Dropbox, then share a link with us via the email address above. Please don’t try to attach your video to an email, thanks!

Do remember to include your name and details about the photos and video.

Entries should be submitted by Sunday 4th January 2024, but the sooner the better!

Voting and Scoring

Winners will be decided by choosing your 3 favourite photos and ranking them 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice. The winning photos will be the ones which accumulate the most points. Points will be awarded as follows: 1st choice = 3 points, 2nd choice = 2 points, and 3rd choice = 1 point.

SHPF members can submit their votes by sending an email giving their name and 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice photographs to <redacted> by Sunday 4th of February 2024.

The results will be announced at the SHPF AGM.

2023 Entry 1. Taken at Witchie Knowe between the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys.

2023 Entry 3. 3600″ in Glen Feshie. Beautiful 2hr evening flight.

2023 Entry 11. In goal at Leitholm 9/5/23 from Broughton Heights before a taxi / train / bus / taxi self retrieve back to the car at Lochurd Farm, followed by a drive back to Leitholm for the glider then drive home to Edinburgh, arriving at 23:59.
2023 Entry 12. Jake’s first Tandem flight (and my last as a dual pilot) was a joyful day of soaring at Bishop hill in Fife. Giving someone their first taste of free flight is a real privilege!
2023 Entry 13. Sneaking in an early morning hike and fly in June before everything got blown out again, my parents watching from our garden made getting inverted over our house an irresistible temptation!
