Event Info
The Leith Chuck & Repack is an opportunity to practice reserve deployment in a dynamic situation and then repack the reserve, observed by trained re-packers. Or should you choose, you can send off the reserve for professional re-packing.
Participation is open to pilots who are current BHPA members (membership will be checked) with registration priority given to SHPF Scottish club registered pilots.
What is involved?
A 60m plus zipline will be installed in a vast film studio space. The zipline will feature a take-off platform at a height of 20m, with a run-out to about 5m above the floor.
The zipline will be installed by the licensed team that has installed all previous ziplines at Ratho. But…this is a new location and system for using the zipline so the process may have to be adjusted as the day progresses.
Please always follow the instructions of the organising team.
When it’s your turn:
- Get onto the scissor lift as directed. This will then be lifted up to the zipline.
- You get into your harness, checking all closures.
- Your harness will be connected to the zipline by the team.
- When they are happy with all connections etc, you will be told you are OK to go.
- Step off into the void…if using a pod harness a way of being settled in the pod will be investigated.
- As soon as you are moving, locate the reserve handle, pull firmly to release the reserve and in a continuous motion throw it away from you. Remember to RELEASE the handle so that the reserve travels as far as possible.
- The reserve should inflate, and you will come to rest at the lowest point of the zipline.
- When you come to a halt, you will be lowered to the ground and disconnected from the zipline.
Once on the ground:
- Breathe
- Gather in your reserve.
- Don’t forget to collect your reserve container bag which will be under the zipline.
- Find a space to layout and repack your reserve. There will be a number of repacking stations marked by plastic sheeting on the floor.
- Repack reserve, with guidance if required.
