Emergency Parachute Systems - one day course 18th October 2014

This was sucessfully held in the Raeburn Suite at the EICA, Ratho

By the end of the course, the 27 participants improved their knowledge of the function and use of emergency parachutes.

This one day course was designed to go beyond the Ratho Re-pack but not into the high level detail or requirements of the BHPA EPPS Course.
Participants learned more about emergency systems rather than just their own equipment, increased their confidence in making judgements and have a balanced view of their own ability to advise and assist others at Club level.

This course did not qualify participants for the BHPA EPPS qualification however it did provide a good introduction to those who may wish to work towards this through the formal training.

Scottish Nationals Paragliding Series

Highlands - 13th/14th September 2014.

A fun and enjoyable round was hosted /run by Iain Robertson and Mike Dearman of the Highland Paragliding Club though sadly it was sparsely attended.
Both days were open distance tasks (Creag Meagiadh and Slochd) with Mike Jardine being the winner on both days. This brought him upto 3rd within the Nationals leader board whilst Sean Figgitt remained the leader and winner for the year and with Gordon Smyth in second place.

LLSC / Tinto BBQ - 30/31st August 2014

The weather was quite good over the weekend and on the Saturday there was the LLSC Tinto BBQ and on the Sunday an Open Distance task was set from Dungavel - for more details please see the Scottish Nationals

The winner was Sean Figgitt and he is now competition leader closely followed by Gordon Smyth who was previously leading and then Alastair Tytler.

Przemek has kindly created a Google Earth file here - which you should be able to download and use to see all the tracks from the Sunday.

Wingbeat / Borders - 23rd/24th August 2014 - A success

Jamie Glendinning, Tommy Bryson and all at Wingbeat ran a successful competition with tasks on both days plus bbq etc based at Cacra.
Thankyou.

More details including excellent write ups for both days plus some links are available via the usual Scottish Nationals page and the Results spreadsheet.

AHPC

The weekend 19th / 20th April saw the commencement of this entry level paragliding comeptition with the AHPC hosting a round in Deeside at the same time as their Club Spring competition the McRonald Trophy which is for both paragliders and hang gliders.

The task set on Sunday 20/04/14 - Open distance from Morrone via Tomintoul (24km) with a couple of fun turnpoints consisting of Braemar Castle and Mar Lodge. Window open between 1pm and 3pm. Land by 6pm and report by 7pm. 11 pilots present and the winner of the day was Gordon Smyth

So to summarise the year so far! - The current leader of the competition (after only 1 round) is Gordon Smyth followed by Khaled Nassar and Scott Mather - more details are available via the usual webpage at http://shpf.co.uk/scotparanationals.php and above left.
